This website focuses on a European subsidy program (LEADER) designed to support the sustainable development of rural areas in Fryslân. It empowers local communities to address regional challenges through “bottom-up” initiatives, encouraging residents, businesses, and organizations to submit project proposals. The program, running from 2024-2027, covers the regions Northwest, Southwest, and Southeast Fryslân, aiming to enhance social cohesion, public services, economic innovation, and environmental resilience. In the period 2024-2027, LEADER funds are available in three Frisian regions: Northwest, Southwest, and Southeast Fryslân.
To apply for a subsidy, you must have an address within these regions, and your plan must pertain to these regions. Submitted plans are assessed based on the Local Development Strategy (Lokalen Ontwikkelstrategie or LOS). Please note: each region has a different LOS.
LEADER focuses on the development of rural areas. Urban areas with more than 30,000 inhabitants (including Leeuwarden, Drachten, Heerenveen, and Sneek) are not eligible for LEADER support.
